For my first post, I figured I would give some details about who I am and where I come from.
Born and raised in Waterloo ON, I grew up in a large family of nine kids. After completing grade school and high school in Waterloo, I went on to study mechanical engineering at the University of Waterloo. It was in my second year of university that I felt the call to priesthood.
A friend of mine was thinking of becoming a priest and invited me to visit a seminary with him. I went, not because I was interested in the priesthood, but primarily to support my friend when visiting a seminary just seemed like an interesting thing to do. However, as God would have it that experience would change the direction my life. While visiting that seminary with my friend, I felt God calling me to leave the university and become a priest, so after only two years of study I packed up my bags left for Toronto.
I first studied at Saint Phillips seminary where I gained my philosophy degree. Then I moved on to Saint Augustine seminary for theology. Having completed my studies in 2016 I was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Hamilton.
Only being a priest for seven years I have served in four parishes. My first assignment was Saint Matthews in Oakville. Then I moved to Saint Catherine of Siena in Hamilton. And just before coming to Saint Mary and the Missions I spent five years at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Stoney Creek.
God has challenged me to be docile to whatever he asks throughout my life. Though I cannot say it’s always been easy to say yes, I can say that every challenge has been met with an overabundance of blessings. I look forward to what God has in store.
Please pray for me.
Fr. David
