Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Dear Parishioners,

This past Tuesday we celebrated another great feast, The Queenship of Mary. This feast commemorated Mary’s coronation, being Crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth.

It is no coincidence this feast falls exactly eight days after the Assumption. What the Assumption begins, the Queenship completes. The Assumption brought Mary, body and soul, into heaven. The Queenship revealed why the reason God brought Mary into heaven in such a spectacular way was in order to make her queen over all.

I like to imagine the angels and saints greeting Mary in heaven on the day of her assumption. Their joy is accompanied by wonder as they wonder why she was given such a special grace. I then imagine their quizzical faces change to joy as they witness Jesus place a crown upon Mary’s head. They understand now that Mary’s role in salvation does not end with her life on earth, but rather continues for all eternity. She will forever be our Queen. Even after Christ comes again and there is a new heaven and a new earth, after we have been in heaven 10,000 years (God willing), and so many things we thought where important have passed away, even then Mary will still be our Queen.

Fr. David
